However, as an aid to building the $n$-Community, owners of personal webs are encouraged to put a short description of their personal web here. This is by no means mandatory (particularly in the case of private webs!) and should be seen as a supplement to having a good description on the main home page, and to the author having a good personal entry in the $n$Lab itself.

As a brief explanation, webs come in three varieties: public, private and published, and private and unpublished. Public webs can be edited and viewed by anyone, while private webs can only be edited by people with the password; published webs can be seen by anyone, while unpublished webs can only be seen by people with the password.

The name of the web is often the name of the owner, or some garbled version thereof.

  My current thought for this web is to post work on in-progress projects that aren’t polished enough yet to be published, but which I think people would still be interested in seeing and perhaps giving feedback on, and which for some reason I don’t want to put on the main nlab (e.g. they may be too speculative). At the moment there’s really only one significant thing (2-categorical logic).

  Urs Schreiber: this web I am using for note-taking that one would have done on paper in the old times, and which in one way or other feels too personal to declare it to be part of the main nLab. Among keeping notes for courses I teach, I am notably developing there research material. From time to time, when such material stabilizes, I turn it into publications. Or at east into genuine nLab entries.

  Urs Schreiber: since I started feeling that every note taken not on a wiki is a case of inefficiency, and since life is short, I started adopting the habit of doing essentially all non-trivial note-taking on a wiki. But even for me, sometimes in order to concentrate I need to be locked away and know that nobody is looking over my shoulder for a moment. Whenever I feel this way, I use this private and read-protected web. But so far this web has never contained much material that wasn’t eventually moved to more publically visible places.
